Experience & approach
Lotus is a generally registered psychologist and registrar currently earning their endorsement in clinical psychology. They've worked in the mental health and community services field for over ten years, including a background in public community mental health settings and crisis work. They have a special interest in working with LGTBQIA+ individuals who are also culturally diverse, as well as individuals and families of LGBTQIA+ family members and children.
Lotus is trained in a range of therapy modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) but draws from many holistic blends of mindfulness-based interventions, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), compassion work and trauma-informed care (using the triphasic model). This may sound like a lot of acronyms but the main thing to know is that they like to keep things flexible!
The right fit
Some of Lotus' special interest areas include LGBTQIA+ (and specifically gender-affirming) inclusive care and neurodivergent-affirming practice. This includes the intersection of disability, cultural responsiveness (for individuals also from culturally diverse backgrounds) and trauma. They also have a special interest in working with activists. Their practice is actively informed by their lived experiences as a nonbinary person, a carer, and as someone who is openly LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, and culturally diverse with a background in community advocacy and activism.
Lotus' general approach is that it's their job to adapt and be the right fit for the client. They enjoy seeing a wide range of client presentations, from anxiety/depression, significant bereavements, and trauma. Their practice is poly, kink, and sex-worker friendly, and they actively welcome clients with diverse family and relationship structures.
Lotus enjoys working with adults of all age ranges and young people and is able to see individuals who are 16+. They hope one day to continue training to work with children, as children are often what keeps you on your toes!

On a personal note
Some of Lotus' favourite hobbies include maintaining an active spiritual practice with a special interest in Zen Buddhism.
They also enjoy making cups of tea and then promptly forgetting about them.
