Melanie Powell

Provisional Psychologist

Experience & approach
Melanie is a provisional psychologist at the beginning of her career, eager to learn and develop her skills and expertise. She provides a relaxed and judgement-free space full of warmth, care and collaboration.
Authenticity is central to Melanie’s ethos and she invites clients to find, show and embrace their genuine and authentic self. Together, Melanie and her clients explore their psyche and unravel unhelpful beliefs and behaviours to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
The right fit
During her masters degree, Melanie gained experience conducting cognitive and academic assessments and enjoys being able to support young people and their families in identifying strengths and appropriate supports so that they can flourish.
Alongside assessments, Melanie also enjoys therapeutic work, and is interested in a range of presentations including stress, sleep issues, life transitions, interpersonal difficulties, anxiety and depression. She has a special interest in supporting people with eating disorders, traumatic brain injury and speech and language difficulties, and is keen to further develop her skills in these areas. Melanie also has a strong interest in supporting neurodiverse people (e.g. ADHD and autism) and works from a neuro-affirming framework.
Melanie has a strong grounding in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and is eager to learn other therapeutic modalities such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and dialectal behaviour therapy (DBT).
Melanie is able to work with and support people across the lifespan including children aged 6 years and over, as well as adults.

On a personal note
Originally from Queensland, Melanie now calls Tasmania home and likes to get outside and enjoy the Tassie sunshine whenever she can. When she's not in the clinic, Melanie can be found hiking or playing tennis.
For more restful pursuits, Melanie also likes to observe the many moods of her tuxedo cat Felix.
